View Video Tribute Jenny Lynn Thomasson Glenn, 78, of North Little Rock passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, after a long but tenacious fight with Alzheimer's. She was born November 3, 1933 in Rison, AR to Lynn and Iris Haskins Thomasson. They soon moved to Star City where Jenny grew up and finished high school. She loved Star City and made many friends many of whom remain friends today. Jenny became an excellent swimmer barely making a ripple as she glided across the water whether in the local pool or on many of the lakes around the countryside. She also became a tenacious and well known all star basketball player spending much of her time on the floor fighting for the basketball. She made the All District team from a very well known high school team. Her biggest love while in Star City was her horse, Bill. She rode him every chance she got including all the local parades. He was kind and very easy to manage. He loved Jenny just like all of us. When she left for college she had to give Bill away. He immediately became mean and irascible. He missed Jenny just as all of us do. While in high school Jenny was voted the Wittiest, most Understanding and Best All around. This sums up the rest of her life. She kept us all laughing, went out of her way to help people and wasn't afraid to try anything. For years she stood on her head every New Year's Eve just to prove she could still do it. Jenny was also an avid dancer. She and her husband had the reputation of being the first couple to arrive and the last to leave after having danced every dance. While in college at ASTC (UCA) she received her degree in Home Economics in just three years. As she and her father traveled around the state looking for a Home Economics teaching job they made an unscheduled stop in Crawfordsville to eat lunch. Finding out there was a vacancy at this high school she immediately applied, interviewed and was hired on the spot. Perhaps the most important part of this stop is that this turned out to be the home town of her future husband whom she was soon to meet. They had their first date in September spending the entire day at the Mid South Fair in Memphis riding all the rides and playing all the games and both falling in love. They were married a year later on August 29, 1955. Jenny spent her honeymoon traveling across the country to the new assignment in Monterey CA. They were next to Carmel, 17 mile drive and Pebble Beach Golf Course. They spent Christmas day on the beach in Monterey. After a year she came back to Star City to have their first child, Lynda. They then moved on to the next duty of three years in Germany. While there she was able to tour Austria, Switzerland and see every major city and museum in Italy. While living in Landshut, Germany Jenny had her second child, Robert Jr. Just like all of Jenny's pregnancies it went quickly. So quickly that the ambulance didn't make it to the hospital. At 2:30 A.M. we were forced to stop, knock on an unknown door and ask if we could come in and have a baby. The couple was very nice and accommodating. Soon we were surrounded by an avalanche of German police, MP's, AP's sirens and lights. On return to the U.S. she took a job teaching Home Economics in her hometown high school while her husband attended Ark A & M (UAM) to complete his premed. Then the family moved to Little Rock. There were no openings for Home Economics so she took a job teaching first grade at Mabelvale elementary. She taught there for five years and came to really love the younger children. She had a real gift for teaching reading and all the children loved her. Just before leaving Little Rock her third child, Bill was born. The move to North Little Rock came in 1968. She spent 25 years living on Justin Matthews where she raised her family. The last child, Steve, was born one year later in l969. Shortly after moving she decided to join the Catholic Church. She began to teach at Immaculate Conception in the grade school but eventually gravitated to teaching religion. She taught all the first communion classes and wrote original and unique liturgies for all the children's' masses. During the summer she always had a list of children who needed tutoring in reading and she loved doing that. She became very active in the church taking leading roles in the Cursillo movement and also in Marriage Encounter. Her greatest love was for her children. She had a teenager at home from 1969 until 1990 and she stayed awake every night until every child was home. She taught every child and grandchild one specific thing: Attitude is Everything. You can accomplish anything with the right attitude! Her personal life was based on one belief: if you want JOY in your life just put Jesus first, Others second and Yourself last. And she did. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Jonathan Usry. She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Robert Glenn M.D.; one sister, Johnnie Mac Henry (Skip) of Little Rock; daughter, Lynda Glenn, of Fountain Hills, Arizona; granddaughters, Adrianne Kupietz, of Long Beach, California and Ann Elizabeth Kimmons (Eli) of North Bend, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Kupietz, Alex, Caleb, Hoyt and Anneli Kimmons; son, Robert Glenn, of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Rob, Shonna and Bill Glenn, son, Bill Glenn (Stacey) of Pascagoula, Mississippi; grandchildren, Justin Usry, Josh, Will and Addison Glenn, and son, Steve Glenn, of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Connor and Haven Glenn. They would also like to especially thank all the wonderful and caring staff at the continued... 1 2 Next ...continued Lakewood Nursing Home including the administration, physicians, nurses, the many warm and caring CNA's who took such good care of her, housekeeping, dietary, laundry and maintenance.
