John Barnett

John H. Barnett, 68, of England took his Father by the hand and entered Heaven on Thursday, January 5, 2012. He was born August 17, 1943 in Fairfield, Alabama to the late John E. and Ruth Tillery Barnett. He was a member of Crystal Hill Assembly of God. John joined Lions Club in 1974 in North Little Rock. He transferred to Texarkana in 1976 where he joined the Texarkana Noon Lions Club (A Founders Club). He was a member of the Gravel Ridge Lions Club and a new club consultant for Lions Clubs International in the New Club Extension Program, being one of five initially chosen from approximately 400,000. John was appointed by Governor Huckabee to serve on the Board of Directors for the Arkansas Commission for the Blind. He was past board member and chairman of the Board of the March of Dimes, Crime stoppers of Texarkana, past board member, treasurer and board chairman of Salvation Army (served seven years), city wide Campaign Chairman United Way of Greater Texarkana, past member of Texarkana Toastmasters, past chairman of the Boys Scouts Food Drive and past board member of Four States Fair Association. He was a Mason/Shriner and in 1993 he won the prestigious "Wilbur Award" for work in civic affairs -2nd- recipient for this city wide award. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Wanda L. (Sims) Barnett, of England; son, Randy Barnett and wife, Gail; daughter, Beverly "Buffy" Stewart and husband, Derek, all of Alabama; brother, Ray Barnett and wife, Linda, of North Carolina; sister, Connie Lawson and husband, Paul, of Alabama; grandchildren, Jonathan Stewart, Trevor Stewart, Rachel Barnett and Grace Barnett; a Special Angel, Brandon Sims; and extended family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. He possessed a love for life that will not be replaced. He will be missed by everyone that he has touched throughout his great life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gravel Ridge Lions Club, 202 Rita Drive, Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday in the North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Mulberry Cemetery.
