Margie Hogan

Margie Lois (Jackson) Hogan, passed away, Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the age of 97. She was born February 22, 1909, in Faulkner County, Arkansas, to the late George W. and Amanda (Brockinton) Jackson. Margie was a homemaker and the oldest member of Brockington Road Church of the Nazarene (formerly North Little Rock Church of the Nazarene), where she was a member of the Builder?s Class and past Sunday School teacher in the children?s department. She was also a member of the Missouri Pacific Railroad Booster Club. Margie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tildon J. Hogan; a son, Tildon Jerry Hogan; a daughter-in-law, Mary Donalda (Ritter) Hooks; and granddaughter, Rita (Hooks) Marks; four brothers, Sam, Arley, Basil, and Aubrey Jackson; and three sisters, Kimmie Jackson, Tressie Hicks, and Tessie Elkins. She is survived by two sons, Charles W. Hooks and Jimmy Hogan; her daughter, Gloria Hogan; daughter-in-law, Virginia (Terry) Hogan; twenty grandchildren, Jeff Hogan, Jerri Lynn Page, Jennifer Bolin, Pat, Tommy, Michael, Joe, Anthony, Chris, and Bill Hooks; Donna Kay Stephenson, Linda Johnson, Margie Worlow, Mary Elizabeth Palmer, Susan Hooks, Joan Crews, Jane Hooks, Sharon Hooks, Karen Hooks, and Diane Garner; thirty-one great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Margie?s most prized possession was a gold medal she won for public speaking at the age of five. It was decided she was too young to receive the medal. At the age of seven, her father, George Jackson, borrowed a horse and buggy from her uncle, Bruce Brockinton, to take her to Conway to again compete for the gold medal. She won the medal and treasured it for the remainder of her life. At the approximate age of eighteen, she wrote articles about community events and activities in her rural community, which were published in the Log Cabin Democrat. Margie was loved, respected, and cherished by her large, extended family, friends, and all who knew her. Her favorite pastime was growing roses and other flowers, and she shared them with family, friends, and anyone who visited her home. It was truly a blessing to know her and share her life. The family extends thanks to Arkansas Hospice for their care and support. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend George Prentice officiating. Burial will be at Edgewood Cemetery.
