Roy Monroe

Little Rock – Roy Joseph Monroe, 78, of Little Rock passed away on January 4, 2012. He was born August 15, 1933 in New Orleans, LA to Rosalie Tusa Monroe and Harry Monroe, who preceded him in death. His is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice Sweeney Monroe, and their three daughters, Jan Marie Hammon of Hot Springs, AR, Dana Monroe Caldarera of Longview, TX and Sandra Monroe McKay of Little Rock, AR; nine grandsons, Blake Caldarera and Trevor Caldarera, both of Longview, TX, Sean King, Jason King, Mason McKay, Tate McKay, Monroe McKay, Landon McKay and Carson McKay, all of Little Rock, AR, one granddaughter, Grace McKay of Little Rock, AR; and two sons-in-law, Pat Caldarera of Longview, TX and Jeff McKay of Little Rock, AR. He was born and raised in New Orleans, LA where he loved playing baseball in his youth. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps when he was 16 and served our country for four years. He and Janice Sweeney married in 1955. He worked as a salesman for the 7UP Bottling Company. He moved to Sherwood, AR as a district manager for Armour Dial in 1969. He accepted a national account position with R.J. Henderson and Associates, a food brokerage company in Little Rock, where he represented, among others, Hershey's Chocolate. Throughout his career he referred to Hershey as "the finest chocolate in the world". He later purchased R.J. Henderson and Associates with his long time friend, Billy Love. Later in his life, he dedicated himself to the care of his wife, Janice Monroe. He cherished every moment with his daughters and dearly loved his grandchildren. He supported the work of St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN; his favorite quote was from Danny Thomas, founder of St. Jude's, "There are two kinds of people in the world; givers and takers. The takers eat better but the givers sleep better." A visitation/ rosary service will be at Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock, AR on Thursday January 5, 2012. The visitation will begin at 5:30pm followed by a rosary at 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be at Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock, AR on Friday January 6, 2012 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN or to Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock, AR.
