Rudolph Reidy

Lt. Col. Rudolph William ?Rudy? Reidy, 93, of North Little Rock, passed away Monday, November 19, 2007. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, July 2, 1914 to Walter and Anna Reidy, the seventh of nine children. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Pat) Reidy; several nieces and nephews; and devoted friends. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bill Reidy; four sister; four brothers; and sister-in-law, Mary Dannahy, who lived in their home for 30 years. His greatest pleasure in life was sports as he played jacks and stick street baseball as a child. In high school he lettered in football and basketball. After high school he played semi-pro baseball with a Northern Wisconsin team. Later his closet was filled with bowling trophies and the new love of his life, golf which he played from age 40 to 82. Rudy was in the United States Army where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Traffic Branch. Later he transferred to the Ordinance Branch. He and his wife, Pat, traveled world wide with his Army career. Arkansas became home in 1969 when he accepted a position with the Pine Bluff Arsenal and he retired from there in 1979. Rudy was a quiet dignified man who felt that life in Arkansas was a happy one where he found many friendly kind people. Once Rudy made a friend it was a friend forever. He attended many specialized technical schools where he obtained a title of nuclear special weapons advisor. After meeting and marrying Pat (Dannahy) in New Orleans where they worked in the same office, the Army sent him in many directions. Twice during World War II the units in which he was assigned to the Far East were canceled. He was recalled to service in the Korean War which then led to fascinating assignments in Tokyo, Japan were his wife later joined him. His next overseas assignment was three years in Germany, and one in Turkey. In between orders included California, New Orleans, San Antonio, Killeen, Texas and twice at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. His other interests and hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, bridge and dining out. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7000 John F. Burial will be in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. The Vigil Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170.
