Everett Oates

Everett G. Oates went to be with the Lord, June 30, 2009. Born March 13, 1923 near Redfield, Arkansas, Everett was the youngest of three children born to O.T. and Bessie Oates. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ora and Mary. Everett lived in the North Little Rock area most of his life. After graduation from North Little Rock High School, he served three years with the U.S. Air Corps. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science and Commerce degree and was employed by Arkansas Power and Light Company (Entergy) in Little Rock before transferring to Cabot as a Salesman in 1949. Following 10 months service as a fighter pilot in Korea in 1950, he rejoined AP&L in Little Rock. After 36 years of service with AP& L, he retired to pursue managing the family farm at Toltec and devoting as much time as possible to hunting and fishing up and down the White River near DeValls Bluff. Everett greatest loves were his wife, Faye and daughter, Nelwyn who preceded him in death, his sons, Gordy and wife Carolyn and their children, Rachel and Jacob, youngest son, Barry and his daughter Lindsey and son Taylor. Just the sight of his grandchildren would have him sporting a smile that would light up the darkest of rooms. Everett was a loyal and faithful servant of God and worshiped 54 years at Lakewood First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Sunday, July 5th at North Little Rock Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held by the Rev. Richard Lancaster at Lakewood First United Methodist Church, Monday, July 6, at 2:00 P.M. with burial at Rest Hills Memorial Park on Landers Road, North Little Rock. Pallbearers will be Billy Don Johnson, Ricky Johnson, Mike Morris, Bernie Finch, Kurt Bender, Jr. and Robert Carroll Johnson. The Oates family would like to extend their love and gratitude to all of the kind and compassionate doctors and nurses during their fathers stay at Baptist Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who can give please donate to the charity of their choice in memory of Everett G. Oates.
